I have never had any problems, but I push it back so it doesn't touch it. I believe you can find littleboxes to put behind the speakers if you want.

I took some nylon screen from Lowe's and covered the back side of my speakers in the attic so that the insulation would not fall down into the speaker... just staple to the ceiling... or stretch it out from joist to joist... then cover it in insulation.

Well...after 4 miserable hours I managed to run speaker wire for two inceiling speakers and install them....I ran audessey and it could not find them .

I also mounted the new JVC up on the ceiling..

Going to give this a try....just got home and going to try and figure this out...

It has to be something in your settings. I think there are some options for height speakers, make sure you have the right options selected... and that they are on the correct 2 channels you are connected to. Level check them in the 8500 menu before running Audyssey, then you'll know if they are connected and setup right.

AVR software says use Height 2 for top middle...the AVR manual says use Height 3 for top middle (which is wrong) and is how I had them setup.

When I used to run the eq . I would just stop and save after using the mic in the primary sitting position. It does not seem to let me do this...it only lets me back out and doesn’t save...

I do not know why... I wonder if you just left the Mic there, instead of moving it if the results would be the same as a single position. I am thinking yes, but it is a waste of time, but it might get you down the road at least.

Ya, it made me take 3 recordings before the option to save was presented...so I was able too skip the next 5.

Did you recently do a firmware update...thinking maybe a bug in an update, if not the only thing I can think of is to do a factory reset, and see if it corrects itself.

I think Audyssey requires 3 measurements... seems like I remember that.

I believe it actually helps to get 4-5 measurements... just move the mic about 3-4 inches left and right... about where your ears would be.

I need too lower the rear mains about a foot now. Just enough so they clear the bar height table and still reach the ear of the front sitting area.

Same color of my first room... brought back come memories.

Curious how those heights will work in that location... doesn't seem like they are going to be reflected from the ceiling or come from the ceiling above you, but will still act more like rear speakers. Maybe moving those rear speakers down some will help.

I really like those boxes that Sonnie built, they could solve my problems quite well.
I am a tad afraid of cutting big holes in the ceiling aand so forth, but mounting a smallish box to the ceiling just might work......or maybe these enclosures I have can be screwed to the ceiling joists ??

That looks like encloses that would go behind the speaker, so you would need a speaker that is designed for that sealed enclosure and would fit it properly. Most ceiling speakers are designed for infinite baffle into the attic.

I bought these enclosure that fit exactly the speakers that I have so they do fit exactly.

In that case then, you should be able to screw them to the joist thru the ceiling with some longer screws. Of course you'll have to drill a hole thru the back of the can and the ceiling to fish your speaker wire thru.
