Has anyone on here built a set of Statment I or II speakers designed by Curt Campbell and Jim Holtz? Have some crossover to terminal connection questions
Thank you

I haven't seen any mention of it, although there could be someone around that has.

Did you start a build already, or just considering it for now?

I’ve been thinking about it for a couple months and reached out to Jim Campbell and he was pretty helpful and recommended a different 4 inch driver and gave me detailed instructions for what parts to change in the crossover. It’ll be my next winter/spring project. It’s a three-way set up. The 8 inch woofers are wired in parallel down to four ohms. The 4inch mids are the same. And it’s a 7 ohm single tweeter if I looked at it right. And maybe I’m thinking about it wrong in my head, but if all those get powered by one source it’ll have a really low impedance assuming all the + and - from
each crossover go to the same + and - speaker terminal.

That's a good question. I've never built a speaker with a crossover... maybe someone will know.

This place is full of knowledgeable people. Something will come along

Have you thought about tri-amping? With active crossover you can experiment and really dial it in,
I was hoping to either run a mono amp on each side or get a 2 channel amp. My end goal is kind of like this wiim ultra-geshelli dac-hypex two channel or two fosi mono’s just trying to keep it simple for my first dedicated 2 channel build and maybe upgrade in the future. But I’m open to suggestions. If I’m understanding I’d have a dsp feeding 6 different amp channels?

I use a Xilica 4080 crossover for a 3 way biamp setup. I run my crossover close to my speakers and run xlrs to my rack. I have a minidsp ddr88a that I will be placing in front (signal wise) of my xilica crossover...this way I can run just 2 channels of dsp to my xilica, and the remaining inputs and outputs In the minidsp will be used for my surrounds and height channels.

I use the same speakers for my left and right channels for my AVP and my Athena stereo preamp. I Am running 2 pairs of the Fosi V3 Monoblocks and a pair of plate amps for my folded bass horns. I used to run Icepower amp modules and I kept seeing all the hype about the Fosi v3 Monos that I figured I would give them a try. I put them on my compression drivers (500hz on up) first and WOW, the clarity was so much better. A friend suggested I try them on my mids (100hz-500hz)...So I ordered and 2nd pair (this time with the 5amp bricks. When I got them in I took the 5amp power bricks and ran them on the compression drivers and the 10amp on the mids. The second pair gave me exactly what I liked about the 1st pair of v3 monos...clarity, dead silence between tracks and perfect synergy with my compression drivers, mids and my bass horns.

I had to put this together in my head a little bit. New to home audio still. So are you setting crossovers using your xilica and using your dsp for more signal outputs and tuning?

Yes... I am dialing in with a microphone at 1m from my left channel and then from my right channel at 1m. Then I have the 8 channel minidsp (using the left and right channels going to my xilica), and the remaining 6 channels for my surrounds and height channels. I currently have only the Xilica hooked up as I am installing different 15" drivers for the mids bass (I need to retune with the change), and my rear channels are awaiting some stands (have not been tuned). I hope to be finishing up with all 4 channels being tuned from 1m and then tune all 8 channels with Dirac from the mlp.

You’re really going to have that dialed. That’s awesome. Do you use this for HT and have a stereo mode for music or what do you use this setup for the most?

I have a Marantz 8805a for HT and a Denafrips Athena for stereo. I purchased a little box that I plug the left and right channel outputs into, and then the left and right channel outputs go to the Xilica. I have the box setup to where the Athena is default (amps are signal sensing for turn on and turn off) for switching which source goes to the Xilica. Currently I am only running left and right channels...so serious listening goes to the Athena and watching TV (no surrounds, or heights) I use the Marantz. Works out nicely.

Very nice. I’m going to do some more research now. I appreciate the input. Looks like there’s good options out there

If you look around you can get a nice crossover used for about $500 or less. I have a 2nd active crossover... Yamaha pro crossover that was highly recommended. My Xikica I picked up for $800 new and now I have seen them going for over $2k used.

Are there any decent online places that sell used gear?

I purchased my Yamaha off of Ebay, but you I have also used Audiogon, Audiomart, and from forums. I have not had any problems. Check to see if the seller has had any bad comments is always good to check. Craigslist and local musician stores like Guitar Center are also a good ones for local purchases.

Thanks for the advice. I wouldn’t of that of checking out any local stores
