SVS Unleashes Its New 4000 Series of Subwoofers; Nationwide Launch Events Announced

full?d=1511959564.png

(SVS)
(November 28, 2017) SVS is legendary for its incredibly accurate and hard-hitting subwoofers. Last year’s Ultra Series (read review) made massive waves, wowing owners and reviewers alike, which makes the company’s latest subwoofer series announcement doubly exciting.

Tighten your chin straps, folks! SVS is about to drop another subsonic sledgehammer.

The new 4000 Series is comprised of three models priced from $1,499 to $1,999, loaded with tech and features that Ultra Series owners have come to enjoy. Comprised of a sealed (SB-4000), ported (PB-4000), and cylindrical design (PC-4000), the 4000 Series has a model that’s perfect for nearly any room or application.

The technologies SVS has packed into the 4000 Series are drool worthy, headlined by a 13.5-inch driver loaded with a dual ferrite magnet motor assembly that weighs nearly 40-pounds. Its lightweight composite cone and glass fiber dustcap are mated to a long-throw parabolic surround, capable of moving massive amounts of air for detailed and accurate bass punctuated by fast transients.

The driver is powered by a Sledge STA-1200D amplifier (1,200 Watts RMS, 4,000+ Watts peak) that combines the high current output of discrete MOSFETs with Class D efficiency. All three subs also feature a 50 MHz Analog Devices Audio DSP with 56-bit filtering, which SVS claims is “the most sophisticated DSP engine ever used in a home audio subwoofer.” The DSP also carries useful controls that can tune and optimize output. These controls are accessible through the company’s convenient smartphone app (Apple and Android devices), but can also be manipulated via IR remote and a front panel display. The app's intuitive interface can be used to adjust polarity, room gain, phase alignment, and volume, while also granting access to a parametric equalizer with custom settings for music, movies, and user presets.

Also included on all 4000 Series subs is an Active Power Factor Correction (PFC), which serves multiple roles acting as a line conditioner, surge suppressor, and voltage regulator. SVS says the PFC enables each subwoofer to operate as intended on any household circuit, eliminating the effect of power-related stability issues and creating an intra-sub low noise floor devoid of ground loop hums introduced by outside components.

(SVS)

As you’d expect, each of the three 4000 Series subwoofers are capable of digging deep into the realms of sub and infrasonic frequencies. The PC-4000 can output bass as low as 16 Hz in sealed mode, the ported PC-4000 can hit down to 13 Hz in extended mode, while the sealed SB-4000 can reach 19 Hz. Of course, none of those factory specs take room gain into account. Yes, these are serious subsonic beasts.

SVS has arranged for 4000 Series launch events across the United States, beginning with IQ Home Entertainment, today, in Fairfax, VA (6-8 pm). Attendees can experience the 4000 Series in action (along with other company products), hear SVS president Gary Yacoubian discuss the new series, and register to win prize giveaways that include a $2,000 SVS home theater speaker system comprised of five Prime Satellite speakers, two Prime Elevation speakers, an SB-1000 subwoofer, and a Dolby Atmos enabled receiver!

Other events include Electronics Expo (Wayne, NJ) on December 5th, Starpower (Dallas, TX) on December 7, Primetime Audio Video (Rockford, IL) on December 12, World Wide Stereo (Montgomeryville, PA) on December 14, Bjorn's Audio Video (San Antonio, TX) on January 18, and ListenUP (Denver, CO) on January 23. Simply click on the store name to submit your RSVP for the event.

The entire 4000 Series is scheduled to ship in early December 2017 and AV NIRVANA has requested a sample for review. For more information, visit SVS on the web. Pricing and additional information is detailed below.

Thanks, Todd

That is what I am starting to discover. There comes a point when any upgrade from what I have will add little. Maybe duals would be the best way to go.

There's an undeniable advantage to duals. First off, you can vary placement to create a better overall response in your room... but you also gain overall headroom because two subs require less power to deliver the same amount of output as one. Over the years, as I added and subtracted gear from my own HT, going dual subs was one of my most beneficial moves. The saying: "You can never have enough subwoofer," is largely true.

If you have the budget, give it a whirl. And if you really have the budget and are feeling like have a mega-Happy Holidays, then sell your slick Ultra 13 and buy dual SB-4000 or PB-4000.

Ultimately, though, I'd imagine you're experiencing excellent performance with gear you already have. :hsd:

Or three or four. More is better not just louder!

I heard this is the same basic peerless driver in the 16 cut down to size. Can we get any inside information on the driver specs.

With the 16 series they mentioned some impressive driver specs. 8" coil, huge excursion, fairly unusual design. I hear this is basically the same driver with a 13.5" cone. Curious if that is right.

They did... the 16 launch had all kinds of hype about the driver. And, yes, there is trickle down going on here. They didn't focus on those kinds of specs this time around.

From SVS:
  • Dual ferrite magnet motor assembly weighing nearly 40lbs generates immense magnetic force and excursion of the 13.5-inch driver to produce massive low frequency output well below the limits of human hearing.
  • Edge wound voice coil with eight-layer aluminum flat wire minimizes distortion and power compression while providing excellent heat dissipation and linearity ensuring precise control.
  • Lightweight and rigid composite cone with premium glass fiber dustcap generate massive output with pinpoint accurate frequency response.
  • Proprietary injection molded gasket and long-throw parabolic surround ensure longevity and allow extreme excursion and SPLs.

My wife is sure worried. There is one about 10 miles away but I keep telling her that the wind is blowing it away way from us.

That doesn't seem to console her.

I told her not to worry but if she sees me putting the TV, SVS or the Oppo in the car; that is when she's to panic and run.

I had the opportunity to demo the SVS 4000 line last night here in Dallas, TX even though I live an hour away I couldn't miss this. I was able to see and meet Gary Yacoubian, SVS President. He did a fine presentation and explained in great detail what SVS is all about and that is excellent customer service and great sounding speakers and subs. I agree on all that. We heard the PB 4000 using the Prime Towers and Center and SVS Prime bookshelves for the surrounds with the movie Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Baby Driver. I was standing around 8 feet away and the scene in baby driver where they blast the guns in the robbery while baby waits in the car was amazing. My sons pants and mine flapped at the roar of the car escape scene. We also heard a bass heavy music video demo (can't remember the name but if the same demo was used Todd when you went if you can please let me know. I'd like to look it up) that was truly and ear opener literally on how precise the sub was.
We then moved to another room and listened to the SB 4000 this time using the Ultra speakers in 2 CH and the sub blended well with the Ultras using a track by Miles Davis. You could hear every note clear and crisp. Unfortunately I did not hear the prime bookshelf speakers 5.1 setup because I was too busy demoing the other stuff but that is ok I have the Prime Floor standing ones at home.
It was a fun night with lots of food, cocktails in a very nice store (Starpower) and with a really nice company like SVS. Amazing gear!!!!

Just found out they added San Antonio to their tour for January 18th. Needless to say, I signed up right away. Looking forward to meeting the SVS team and checking out more of their gear.

Give the Prime Bookshelfs a solid listen... the image REALLY well. Hopefully they'll have them blended with a sealed 4000.

I will definitely check them out. This store actually has SVS stuff in stock most of the time so they should have them for demo more than just this event. I'm full up on bookshelf speakers at the moment though LOL.

The store in question.
