Tackling the toughest room tomorrow, the "Greatroom"

I've also created this spread sheet to help me track this. as I regularly swap out the speakers in the great room only.

I ordered new swivel glider recliners for the great room and through the old chewed up leather ones out.

The flap part the bottom of the lower left chair is smooth now.

I've also decided to clean up the wiring where its visible.

My latest speaker purchase arrived. These are atmos modules used to bounce sound off the ceiling to the listener position. I bought them to enhance the movie watching experience. Using modules to bounce sound off the ceiling wasn't my first choice. I have a 60 day trial to see how it works.

Little known fact - when Dolby was designing Atmos, they weren’t discounting the use of modules. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

I hope so Todd. :)

I learned yet another aspect to the Yamaha AVR. Before I run YPAO, I needed to select the right configuration for the presence channel. Options were Front Height, Ceiling, or Dolby Module. Of course I learned this after I run YPAO the first time and I wasn't impressed with the results. Read the manual and voila... I could tell right away with their contribution with music in 9 channel stereo. It made the stereo image float toward me about 3.5 feet off the ground.

When everything else fails, RTFM

I watched this last night as it has an atmos effect.

I kept switching the atmos speakers in and out during the movie to see if I could tell a difference. I didn't detect real over head sounds but the sound field is more expansive in the vertical plane when the atmos speakers are running. Does anyone have some recommendations of flicks with good directivity from the atmos speakers??

More than likely, that's exactly what your experience will be, which isn't a bad thing! Atmos is meant to stretch the audio image in the vertical plane!

If you want to check for directionality effects, get a Dolby Atmos version of Gravity. You have to be careful because not all versions of Gravity have Atmos.

This one should (Amazon): https://amzn.to/4jgNWXi

The opening scene of this film (the first 20 minutes) is one of the better Atmos encodes you'll find. Voices as heard from transmissions coming from earth stay aligned with the planet as camera vantage points change. It's magnificent. Also, when Sandra B. gets detached from the rigging, the camera enters her helmet. You'll hear tremendously stretched audio. A++

I started learning a new flowchart tool called Lucidchart and I managed to come up with a flowchart for my sub integration with REW and a miniDSP.. There are a lot of assumptions burried in this flowchart like running YPAO after to get the speaker distances, then adding subs, and playing with the distances. I'm too tired to doc this tonight. I'm stopping for the evening.
