2023-2024 NCAA Football

No doubter last night. Washington gave it the old college try, but Michigan was too big, too fast.

I just read that.

WOW

Sorry, Jay. Crazy!!! Wonder what Bama's backup plan is?

There are more folks mourning that when the pope died... and even more celebrating.

Dan Lanning and Dabo Swinney come to mind.

You think Dabo would leave Clemson? That would be a heist!

I think anything is possible in the world of college football.

Dabo played for, graduated from, and coached at Bama. Clemson fans are not happy with him right now... the timing couldn't be better if he is ever going to be the one. I don't know if he'd be the best choice, but it makes sense. I suspect he'll at least be on the shortlist. I think his buyout is stupid high though, so that might throw a kink in things.

Dan Lanning has been mentioned by several, having coached previously at Bama and Byrne having tried to hire him previously only to be snuffed out by Kirby Smart.

What about Steve Sarkisian at Texas? He'd be a good one.

My guess is Saban may have some influence on who is hired or at least some strong recommendations.

I guess that takes Jimbo Fisher out of the running. :)

I have’t heard Drinkwitz suggested yet. His career trajectory is solid. He’s still young with a lot of energy in the tank.

Well, I guess Bama is one of those places that gets what it wants. Kind of like Roy Williams leaving Kansas to coach at UNC.

Whomever takes the position, they’re obviously going to have to deal with the constant pressure that comes with following the G.O.A.T. Also, Bama doesn’t have much upside as far as their record is concerned, leaving a lot of downside on the table. It’s going to be tremendously difficult for anyone to navigate.

I have visions of Florida since Urban Meyer (and Tebo) left. o_O

It has been "rumored" that Dan Lanning is in Tuscaloosa.

Yeah... fans are not going to give much of a break to anyone coming on board. You might have a couple of years to win a title or otherwise get run off by the supporters.

Leave Drink alone please and thank you.

Seems like anyone from the PAC-10 is ripe for the taking. FSU's head coach, too?

It‘s being reported now the rumor wasn’t true.
Yeah... I heard today that he was watching TV with his family or something to that effect when the rumor hit that he was in Tuscaloosa. We don't even know if Bama was interested in him. I suspect they had not contacted anyone last night but were merely looking at the options and maybe having conversations with coaching agents to find out if certain coaches might be interested before they even approached them.

Sonnie... you have some free time on your hands. Perhaps you should toss your resume into the ring? :T

No way... they couldn't afford me... and I would HATE to be hated for winning as many championships as I would win. I prefer more folks like me than hate me.

Kalen DeBoer from Washington is the man... not a bad choice I suppose... he certainly has an outstanding record as a head coach.

DeBoer had emerged as the Crimson Tide's top target even before three other possible candidates -- Oregon's Dan Lanning, Florida State's Mike Norvell and Texas' Steve Sarkisian -- withdrew from the search and affirmed their commitments to their current schools over the past two days.

Big move for him… stinks for the players he’s leaving behind. Would sting a little bit - lose National Championship, lose head coach!

Weird trivia - I attended grade school with Kalen DeBoer for 3 years in Milbank, SD. He was in kindergarten when I was in 4th grade so I didn't actually know him. :)
I also recently found out that someone in my actual class from Milbank is now the Director of the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Well, guess if you find yourself in trouble with the Feds, you'll be taken care of! :-)

That is certainly in the "small world" category of circumstances.
