Onkyo RZ50 Owners thread

Got any suggestions for a brand/model with like @Todd Anderson mentions enough extension and reach?

I second this! I'd love just to purchase an extension arm. If memory serves, I bought my from Sweetwater (search: microphone tripod boom). I might need to give them a call tomorrow...

Do you have to pay extra for Dirac Live bass management? I have read with other Dirac systems dlbm costs $350 for one subwoofer and $500 for two subwoofers.

No costs for Dirac Live, no news yet on DLBM, so maybe in the future.

What I've bought here in Hungary seems to be a Central European model only: SoundKing DD06, but basically any stand that is high enough and has a long enough boom is okay. They usually end up with a microphone insert, that is compatible with the umik1's insert, and you can buy an audio-photo adapter if you'd like to use the supported pluck microphone from the box.

We may know more by the end of the month... I think best-case scenario is that it's a paid add-on, which could cost up to $500 for the two subs. Licensing with Dirac isn't cheap!

Having a choice is always better then having non though :praying:

@Jay Mammoth, can you please measure the gross distance of the feets (from front of the front foot to the back of the rear foot - "B" on below photo), and if possible also the space in front of the front foot ("A") and the space behind the back of the rear foot ("C"). My stupid media furniture has a limited self depth (compared to its full depth on the top of it) due to providing cable management and hidden place for power strips even if the furniture is completely up against the wall.

Newbie question: I'm trying to choose between buying the Pioneer Elite VSX-LX505 and the Onkyo RZ50. They seem really similar. What are the advantages of the Onkyo over the Pioneer?

This may help give you a bit of an idea: https://www.avnirvana.com/threads/o...t-the-brands’-latest-av-receivers.8292/page-3

Of the two models you're referencing, the RZ50 gives you access to 6 stereo RCA inputs vs 4, and the RZ50 has a factory amp spec of 250 W/Ch (6 ohms, 1 kHz, 10% THD, 1-ch driven) vs the LX505 which claims 230 w/ch. Although both state 120 W/Ch (8 ohms, 20 Hz–20 kHz, 0.08% THD, 2-ch driven, FTC). Honestly, aside from that, it's hard to see what features delineate the two.

can anyone comment on whether the two subwoofer preouts are independently controlled or not? From Andrew Robinson's review it seems like they are not. If so, it would be a deal breaker for bass management if you have dual subs, no?

There' no no individual gain / distance (delay) settings for "Subwoofer 1" and "Subwoofer 2", you just have "Subwoofer".
You can add a miniDSP 2x4 (HD) and measure with umik-1 and REW and set individual gains, delays and even EQ them.

There is a rumor that RZ70 and RZ90 will come next year with independent sub out and optional DLBC, we will see.

That's correct. The Sub channel is one channel split into two.

I would say that is definitely a disappointment for bass lovers. Is the new top Pioneer Elite model the same without independent sub outs?

It's true for all current models across all four brands

M opinion is that Bass Lovers can easily integrate a miniDSP even with Dirac Live (either upgrade a 2x4HD or buy a DDRC24 directly) if they really need to, and then have a standalone external subwoofer bass management "box" that they can carry over to the next AVR/processor as well.

Shame those are mostly basic, would love some technical podcasts with the new AVRs

So far so awesome with the RZ50. Really impressed with the sound I hooked it up while dinner was cooking and did a quick Dirac set up (3 positions) with the included mic and the sound was a noticeable improvement over the Denon 4300 i had. On the Denon i would listen at around -12-13 on the RZ50 -18 sounds amazing.
Dialog sounds clearer and better separation, especially the top atmos speakers, me and the kid watched the Spiderman 2 4K Disc. One problem im having is i cant get airplay to work, my iPhone and iPad can see the Onkyo on the network but then says unable to connect.View attachment 44718View attachment 44719View attachment 44720View attachment 44721
Have you used the pre-outs for an external amp yet? It says on the Onkyo website that they are 200mv, which is really low for most of us needing at least 1 volt sensitivity to get external amps into full power (1.5 volts for Monolith 5x). I need to confirm this so I can order one of these or hold off

Yes, I have an Outlaw 5 channel Amp I use to power my front 3 with.

Qick question: My Denon X3700 has 2 speaker presets, and I can change the speaker presets "on the fly" from the Denon remote.
Is there such function on the Onkyo? Is it possible to store 2 or more speaker presets/calibrations on the receiver itself?
Does it have "Listening Modes" like the old Onkyo 818?
That's another thing I don't like on the Denon, the "Quick Select" buttons are tied to a specific source.
