why can't that provider provide AudioFormats with a custom property that specifies the channel mask
It could, the AudioFormat properties map can hold anything (usually nothing). If the mask were available what should be done with it?

@phofman Thanks for the info, but I don't see why that means the provider shouldn't make available the channel mask that it actually used? REW can decide what to present in the UI if it's zero or otherwise crazy.

At minimum have the default Output Channel Mapping labels match the mask, so that (for example) the two different 7.1 configurations are properly distinguished.

At maximum, consider reworking the UI, eliminate the stereo special case, and let the user choose their desired channel and speaker configuration from the available supported options, so that one could choose between stereo, 2.1, 3.1, 5.1, 7.1, when some/all are supported.

Hi, I went back to REW to twick my HT. Haven't done it for a while so I didn't change the output device în preferences. After a couple of hours of work I remembered about that, so I looked. I tried EXCL AVR and just AVR. The results are completely different. The green curve is with AVR and the yellow one is with EXCL. Both of them use the automatic Dirac live setup. Also, for EXCL I had to increase the volume by 15db. What the heck? Something must be really wrong. I believe the green line much more than the yellow line.

I also noticed something else. If I change the volume by 5 db, the EXCL curve doesn't slide by 5db everywhere. If I do the same thing with the AVR, the curve changes by 5db pretty much everywhere. I guess one more reason to not believe the EXCL results.

Exclusive WASAPI goes directly to your soundcard, while shared WASAPI goes through the windows audio mixer with all its features and DSP, whatever is configured. Including volume control.

So, why the direct sound card scenario would be messed up? I haven't made any changes to the sound card on my laptop. Do you know any setting in particular I should check?
