The Official 2017 MLB Thread

Wow, another great view and seat! :)

That is a gorgeous park. Pretty much the entire San Diego area is gorgeous. Not to mention that screen is HUGE! Did you travel to San Diego for the game?

It is gorgeous. And the integration of that building into the stadium is wicked! Very impressive! I'd like to get back there for another visit.

As for the game, it was part of PR event hosted by Sound United...so it was tied with CEDIA. Gorgeous suite, nice food, very interesting company! I have to say, it was a marriage of two of my three favorite passions: Never watched a live baseball game surrounded by some of the newest/hottest home theater tech! Throw a couple of pinball machines into that room and you'd need the jaws of life to extract me!

Jeff - I hate to do this, but I'm throwing in the towel on the season. Last night, Baltimore's starting pitcher lasted "0.1" innings and gave up 6 runs.

One Out, Six runs... pulled from the game.

The Yankees went on to pound the O's.

I'd gladly eat crow and come crawling back if some kind of miracle happens, but the team has now lost 7 or 8 out of the last 9. The starting pitching is way to inconsistent.

That's awesome and sounds like a good time. I was able to attend a Royals game in the Pepsi suite and it definitely takes the experience to another level.

Yep, the towel's been thrown in here as well. We almost ended the incredible run the Indians are on last night. I guess it just wasn't meant to be. Cleveland is going to be a handful for the Astros me thinks. It looks very reminiscent of the Royals 2014/2015 run. They lost last year but might just win it all this year.

Sound United is a super impressive operation. It was nice to get a taste of how passionate it's management is about its brands. Lots of pride.

Wouldn't be nice to have your own dedicated suite? If I ever won the lottery, I'd make that a yearly priority purchase!

Cleveland looks like a monster. But look at LAD... they were unbeatable, but then went on a 11 game losing streak.

I think I'm going to have to pull for the Tribe this October. Cleveland deserves some more happiness in their town. I like the fact that they're a gritty small market team.

Yeah, I'm rooting for anybody but the Dodgers. I'd be happy with Houston or Cleveland winning it all.

lol, I would be happy with Houston winning it all. :)

Astros clinch first division title since 2001

from chron,

"On Sunday afternoon, in their 149th game of the season, a drought officially ended. A 7-1 victory against the Seattle Mariners clinched the Astros' seventh division championship, their first in the American League West. They became the first team to win titles in three different divisions, having won two in the National League West and four in the NL Central before their 2013 move to the AL."

Good for Houston. They have a rock solid team. The AL playoffs are going to be a blood bath this year. Very fitting for October!

Oh man.. What is that saying that I know so well.. "There is always next year!".. :)

Oh yeah... I'm pretty familiar that saying too! :-/

You can always join me down on the bottom "small ball" Oakland Athletics.
You can’t fault Billy Bean for his effort. He definitely tries it just hasn’t worked out so far.

I'm still trying to figure out Oakland's Josh Donaldson trade.

Oakland got absolutely nothing in return... two of the players are no longer on the team... the shortstop hit the majors this year but has a -.3WAR, and the starting pitcher hasn't shown much of anything.

What was Oakland trying to achieve? Considering Donaldson was MVP last year... and is one of the best players in the AL...???

I'm a little concerned that Baltimore is going to try and trade Manny Machado and end up with a similar haul.

DO NOT TRADE MACHADO! :nono:

I'm with you... but I think it's going to happen. Baltimore has a big payroll that is lopsided towards hitters, not to mention weighed down by Chris Davis's $160 mil deal. I think the team is going to try and move Machado for pitching.

I hope I'm wrong and they open their wallets to pay for pitching. But, I don't think Baltimore is going to pay Machado $300 million.

Lot of news in regards to netting..

from yahoo,

"A projectile traveling 100 mph hit a child in the face at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday. She was with her grandparents. She was not the first kid to get injured at the stadium this year, either."

"I think every stadium should have it.” This is the widely held view of the Major League Baseball Players Association, which has urged the league multiple times in collective bargaining to standardize netting that shields a far wider swath of fans. The league rejected the idea."

=====

Any thoughts?

They should follow Japan's pro league and add more netting.

HBO RealSports did a special on it last year... basically no one sitting just beyond a dugout can react fast enough to duck, even if they see it coming (at 100mph).

I was at a game last year and a bat flew into the stands a section over and creamed this guy. So much blood they had to clear Lot several rows for the remainder of the game!

It makes sense to have more netting.. I wonder if the resistance is due to folks complaining they can't see properly with the net there??

The resistance is MLB.
