Should I not use the 3.5 mm to RCA cord connected to the Mini DSP to the 3.5mm mic jack on the front of the computer?

By miniDSP do you mean the UMIK-1? It is a USB mic, it has a mini USB connector on the back of the mic, the other end of the USB cable plugs into a USB type A port on your computer.

Can't get the signal generator to come on

Can you say a bit more? Have you selected an output device and output in the REW soundcard preferences? Is the generator enabled? Screenshots and a little more commentary would make it a lot easier to help you.

Got that John, mic plugged into the top [ort in front of the computer. I have the 3.5 to RCA plugged into the mic outlet on the front panel?

If you are using the 3.5mm to RCA cable to carry the signal to your system it should be plugged into the headphone socket.

In preferences, Java won't let me select input-output device. Only shows default

After plugging in the mic and the RCA cable, start REW. It should spot the UMIK and ask if you want to use it. For the output side go to the soundcard preferences and select the output device and output directly.

Changed it to headphone socket

To check you have the UMIK correctly connected, right click on the volume control icon in the bottom right corner of your screen and select Recording devices, you should see the UMIK listed.

Still only shows default on the input side. It did let me select headphone on output side though

says no audio devices installed. I have the UMIK plugged into a USB port on the front panel

The socket on the back of the miniDSP is fairly tight, needs a firm push of the connector to seat it properly. Use the cable that came with the UMIK.

I'm geeting a blue lite

That's a good sign, but you can get that even if the cable isn't fully inserted. If it still doesn't show up in the Recording devices list try pushing the connector harder into the back of the mic.

Wheres a vice when I need one. The black plastic part on the plugs about 1.16" from being flush and I dare not push more.

That sounds about right, it doesn't go completely flush. Do you see it now in the recording devices when you right click on the volume control icon?

Should look pretty much like this

Says no audio devices shown

I have that same screen in playback mode also

That's a first. Did you disable the audio device somehow? Try rebooting the PC, If that doesn't fix it, try this:

Right click on the Windows icon bottom left
Select Device Manager from the list that pops up
Click the arrow next to Sound, video and game controllers in Device Manager
See what is listed - probably Realtek High Definition Audio and perhaps the UMIK. Right click on them, if there is an option to Enable Device, select that.

If there is no option to Enable Device try selecting Update Driver from the right click menu for the audio device(s) in Sound, video and game controllers.

getting this. Don't seen 'Device Manager'
