The OFFICIAL 2017 College Football Talking Smack Thread!

So is it really just 12 more days! Wow, so where is everybody on predicting the outcome? Should we get a poll going or something, just to liven things up a bit. Me personally, too hard to get my brain wrapped around it. I think Bama is the better and deeper team. Most of their offensive lineman are stellar as well as their backups. We have Nadi on defense...better be ready to put 2 of them on him! But no body else in his class.

But then, that's not what always wins games. It's attitude & capitalizing on mistakes. A few breaks & it could get lopsided...or not. Who's going to show up wanting it the most? I'll tell you...both of these teams want it the most. Definitely a game to watch as the winner could go all the way. That would be something, no matter which team wins. Going to be smash mouth football at its finest. Prime NFL talent will get a chance to strut there stuff and there should be plenty of it.

May the best team win.

Oh, and who doesn't like to spank a little elephant hiney now and agin!!!

Less than a week now...and everybody is picking Bama over FSU! I was hoping we had a chance, but when everybody is siding with them, it's a bit discouraging. Deep down I keep hoping though. I've seen some pretty strange things happen in college football. Go Noles!!!

ESPN schedule is out, see link here.

Lot of games this labor day weekend..

It's getting close Tonto... really close man. I think it's going to be a close game... and either team could win. The only reason most are picking Bama is simply because they pretty much always do, but they don't really know and they sure don't have any inside knowledge of how good Bama will really be. I think they put too much confidence in Saban, and are forgetting Jimbo is a Sabanite himself, so he knows just how Saban thinks and understands just how Saban has success. He is a great coach and FSU is going to be tough.

I can't believe it's 2 days away! FSU & Alabama finally squaring off in a regular season game. What a match up. Somebody is going to earn bragging rights Saturday night. Whoever wins will surely deserve them!

I do hope it's close no matter who wins. It shouldn't matter in the end as long as the loser can play out undefeated. I think Bama has better depth than FSU, which, to me is a huge factor in the 4th quarter. Nadi will have to come out some (defensive line), but nobody is even close to his ability. With an offensive line like Bama has + the option attack, our defensive line will be running all night. That's where depth comes into play. Both offenses should be good, it's the defense that wins game.

FSU's biggest weakness...crossing routes through the middle. I do hope they have worked on that!

Number 2 Ohio State beat Indiana 49-21.. Ohio State was trailing by 1 at half time --> 14-13.

Who didn't see that coming?

Yeah, for me, it was expected but there were some critics who thought Ohio State wasn't as good as they were..I guess they were taught something.. lol.

Maryland goes to Texas and gets a hard-earned W... 51-41.

Didn't see that one coming!

Yeah, I thought Teas would have won but what a game..

Same ol Texas. That team continues to underperform year in and year out. They get some of the best talent and pretty much any coach money can buy. I think maybe like Florida St. did they should pluck from the Saban tree. Can you imagine Jimbo Fisher down there?

It looks like Missouri is going to have another down year. Our defense gave up 35 points to Missouri St. in the FIRST HALF! That just won't fly in the SEC and I think teams are going to kill us running the ball down our throats. I'm surprised the AD didn't fire the D coordinator at halftime.

They've struggled a lot recently. But, to beat a team by 10, when the spread was -18... gotta make the Terps feel good...they've got a killer Big 10 Schedule this year. Hopefully they can build from this and get some good wins this year.

Yeah, it looks like Maryland should have been the ranked team. I didn't see any of the game but to go into Texas and do that is impressive.

I feel sorry for this kid..

Anybody else looking forward to Bama vs Florida St? Talk about kicking off the season with a bang! I fully expect the loser of this game to be in position for a playoff spot by seasons end. It's not outside the realm of possibility that these same two teams play again for the national championship. Jimbo Fisher is one of the top coaches in football and Saban is well…Saban. It should be entertaining.

This game…sheesh! It has a national championship feel to it. Heavyweights.

Yes, I feel both can go the distance.

Where's the traffic here? Sonnie, Tonto, Leonard, and all of the old HTS members? :dontknow:

Guess, they are busy watching the game! :)

I'm sure but this was a play by play thread at HTS. I miss that place sometimes. :sarcastic:

Lot of college football yesterday.

Here is how the top 25 did..

from sbnation,

1. Alabama: somehow even more entrenched
Bama will likely be unanimous No. 1 after beating No. 3 Florida State pretty comfortably, 24-7.

2. Ohio State: steady
A 49-21 win over Indiana sounds about right.

3. Florida State: unlikely to fall far
No. 3 shouldn’t beat No. 1 anyway, and nobody else in the country had to play Bama, in my opinion.

4. USC: might slip slightly
The Trojans had a lot more trouble with WMU than the 49-31 score suggests, and the next few teams blew people out.

5. Clemson: unlikely to fall
Nothing wrong with a 56-3 win over Kent State.

6. Penn State: unlikely to fall
Nothing wrong with a 52-0 win over Akron.

7. Oklahoma: unlikely to fall
Nothing wrong with a 56-7 win over UTEP.

8. Washington: might slip slightly
The Huskies had clear issues in a 30-14 win at Rutgers, a team that might be improved, but is still Rutgers.

9. Wisconsin: could be jumped
Beating Utah State, 59-10, is fine, but Michigan beat Florida.

10. Oklahoma State: could be jumped
Beating Tulsa, 59-24, is fine, but Michigan beat Florida.

11. Michigan: moving up
No. 17 Florida was short-handed, but UM more than tripled up the Vegas line in a 33-17 win.

12. Auburn: likely getting jumped
A 41-7 win over Georgia Southern is fine, but LSU whooped BYU.

13. LSU: moving up
Dominating BYU, 27-0, is one of the week’s best wins.

14. Stanford: probably not falling
Beating Rice, 62-7, sounds about right.

15. Georgia: not falling, and mayyybe moving up?
With so few ranked teams losing, it’s hard to see the poll making many moves, but beating Appalachian State by a 31-10 margin and with a backup QB is a really strong win.

16. Louisville: could slip, but who’d jump up?
The Cardinals beat Purdue by only 35-28, but most of the teams below them lost or played nobodies.

17. Florida: could leave the rankings, but should they?
A 33-17 loss is about what a top-25 team should do against No. 11, but an 0-1 record is an 0-1 record.

18. Miami: steady
Beating FCS Bethune-Cookman, 41-13, doesn’t prove much.

19. USF: likely slipping
Struggling with FCS Stony Brook and then winning by 31-17 isn’t outstanding, especially after struggling with San Jose State in Week 0.

20. Kansas State: steady
Beating FCS Central Arkansas, 55-19, doesn’t prove much.

No. 21 Virginia Tech and No. 22 West Virginia
These teams play each other Sunday night, conveniently. The loser will be out, while the winner could jump above Louisville to No. 16 or so.

23. Texas: out
The Horns lost to Maryland, 51-41, and are definitely not BACK.

24. Washington State: steady
It’s exciting that, for the first time in three years, WSU didn’t lose to an FCS team, but beating Montana State, 31-0, doesn’t prove much.

25. Tennessee: either up or out
The Vols play Georgia Tech on Monday night.

Howard pulls biggest point-spread upset in college football history

from espn,

"By point-spread standards, Howard pulled off perhaps the biggest upset in modern college football history Saturday night.

The Bison, an FCS team from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, entered as 45-point road underdogs against UNLV and stunned the Rebels 43-40 in Las Vegas. UNLV paid Howard $600,000 for the appearance."

"Howard quarterback Caylin Newton, the younger brother of Carolina Panthers star Cam Newton, accounted for 330 total offensive yards and three touchdowns to lead the upset Saturday in the debut for new Bison coach Mike London. Newton had 21 carries for 190 yards and two scores and passed for 140 and a score."

USC's blind long snapper Jake Olson finds game action on extra point against WMU

Did VaTech finally win a prime time game against a ranked opponent?
