The OFFICIAL 2017 College Football Talking Smack Thread!

Texas A&M blew it.. Had a 44 to 10 lead over UCLA and then lost the game 45-44.. Wow..

Well Bama spanked us, played the better game. FSU did hold its own better than I expected...except for special teams. Bobby Bowden always said, special team play can win the ball game. True here. I think other than that we were pretty matched up. Both the defenses were very good, Bama's offense a bit better. Was a good game, my hats off to Bama for pulling the win. Hopefully we'll see them again!

Florida State lost their QB -- Deondre Francois
That isn't good.. Not sure who their backup is..

I tuned in to that UCLA/Texas A&M game in the 3rd quarter when it was 44-10. What a phenomenal comeback!!

Did you watch the whole game till the end or you thought, it was over and turned it off?

Well, UCLA started scoring, so I watched.

:) That is good. Yeah, from one perspective it is the greatest comeback and from the other, well, the greatest collapse. lol.

Late to the game here... but it's been a busy couple of days. I sold my truck and had to get another one, but is absolutely nasty, so I have been tearing it apart ... to the bare metal, and giving it a serious cleaning. Then we had company all day today, shooting all day on our 530 yard range, so that was a lot of fun. Then a bunch of cooking and cleaning up. Almost like work!

Bama pulled if off... certainly glad of that. They beat a very good FSU team that just had a few bad breaks, or otherwise it could have been a different outcome. Both defenses really looked super good. I realize we scored 24 points, but only one of those scores was a long drive, while the rest were special teams and turnovers that gave us great field position, and even then the FSU defense still played good ball. You give any team enough opportunities that close to your end zone, they are bound to score a few times.

I hate it for the fans if they lost their QB. There is no replacing that guy... he is good. Number one in yards passing last year? He got rattled a little by Bama, but I firmly believe he would have carried FSU right back to the top. Now if he is gone... not so sure what will happen.

The Tide's defense did look pretty good, better than I thought they would be against an excellent FSU team. Offense... well... we got some work to do, although again, we were playing against a jam up defense in FSU. I am not sure how many defenses we will face this year that will be that good, so maybe we'll fair better on offense as the year goes on and our line starts to gel a little better.

Wow... UCLA... what a game. Down 44-10 in the third quarter and win the game.... what a comeback. I couldn't believe it as it was unfolding. It was like A&M just gave up completely.

Tennessee pulled it out tonight with GT failing to get the 2 point conversion. That was a close one too.

Next weekend will be very interesting... OSU vs OU... and Clemson vs Auburn... two very good games that are on TV about the same time.

Almost 26 years of working weekends has numbed me to football. This past weekend reminded me of what I was missing.

Looks like Blackman (true freshman) is getting the nod as quarterback. Had hopes for the season, but this puts it up in the air as to how the season turns out.

Our defense was stellar & I thought the offensive line did a great job. Those Bama defensive line players are as good as they come! Mickey Andrews (previous defensive coordinator with Bowden) was a firm believer that your defense wins games. We are solid there and the offensive line is very good. So we will see how it goes.

Louisiana Monroe this weekend. We'll see how he plays. I was surprised Jimbo didn't let him through the ball with 6 minutes left in the game. Guess he didn't want to subject his psyche to it too early in a game that was pretty much over at that point.

I supect we will drop significantly in the polls now. Jimbo has his work cut out for him now!

Go Noles!

Wow, I thought we would drop out of the top 10. I guess the guys are expecting great things from the Freshman QB! Can wait to see how he works this weekend. Jimbo says he is the real deal.

I hope he turns out to be really good for you guys. It is a shame you lost your main guy. That is the one drawback to us all playing such big opponents first game of the year. You lost a QB and we lost two of our linebackers, and two more are questionable for a couple of weeks anyway... neither 4 of them played the second half. Thankfully we are pretty deep in that position. Losing a QB is much scarier. FSU is my second most favorite team, so I want the best for them... and really hated it to begin with that we had to play them.

Yeah, that's the drawback to playing with the big dogs! Those big fellas can bring the hurt! You hope it doesn't happen, but the odds are against you from the getgo.

We have really been fortunate over the years to not have too many guys get hurt, or no one that couldn't be replaced. Losing two outside linebackers is not good for our dept, that is for sure. If another one gets hurt, that's when it will sure enough hurt us.

FSU had to cancel its game tomorrow due to Irma. That means our Freshman QB get to play his 1st game against Miami...our in-state rival! Could set the stage for the season, just hope it's in a good way!

Bummer... I know it would have been a lot better if he could have had a little easier game to start.

I am really bummed out about this QB situation. I wouldn't even feel as bad if Jalen had gotten hurt.

Lot of college football yesterday.

Due to Hurricane Irma: Florida, Florida State, Miami among teams to cancel games.

from si

1. Alabama: After defeating a talented FSU team by 17, the Tide thumped another FSU—Fresno State, 41–10. Nick Saban’s squad is the closest thing to a sure team in college football right now.

2. Oklahoma: Baker Mayfield was almost flawless again this week, only this time he carved up Ohio State on the road. The Sooners' young WRs have stepped up nicely. The O-line only allowed OSU’s fierce pass rush to just two sacks while the Sooners D, led by big-play man Obo Okoronkwo, only surrendered one play longer than 17 yards—a 31-yard pass play.

3. Clemson: Brent Venables's D has been nasty. After holding Kent State to just 120 yards, the Tigers held Gus Malzahn’s offense to just 117 and sacked Auburn 11 times.

4. USC: The Trojans had a strong performance, drilling Stanford 42–24 as Sam Darnold and the Trojans passing attack took it to a very good Stanford secondary while the run game was explosive.

5. Penn State: James Franklin’s crew got some revenge against rival Pitt who beat them last year, winning handily 33–14. In two weeks, PSU has outscored two FBS opponents 85–14.

6. Oklahoma State: The schedule hasn’t been too rough but Mason Rudolph and company have been very sharp. Last week the Cowboys thumped a Tulsa team that won 10 games last year, 59–24. This week, they blasted South Alabama 44–7.

7. Michigan: Jim Harbaugh’s team held Florida to 197 yards last week and held Cincy to just 200 this week in a 36–14 rout. Don Brown’s D had two Pick-6s, giving the Michigan defense three touchdowns on the season, one more than its opponents' offensive total.

8. LSU: One week after dominating BYU 27–0 despite missing a bunch of starters, LSU whipped FCS Chattanooga, 45–10 as Derrius Guice went over 100 yards for the second time this season.

9. Washington: The Huskies non-conference schedule is cushy. Last week it was Rutgers. This week, it was FCS Montana who didn’t give the Huskies much of a battle. U-Dub cruised to a 63–7 win, out-gaining the Griz, 506–163. nest week’s opponent is Fresno, which likely won’t provide too much of a challenge either.

10. Wisconsin: Freshman RB Jonathan Taylor from New Jersey ran all over FAU for 223 yards and three TDs. The Badgers did turn the ball over three times. They likely won’t face a ranked team till Michigan visits on Nov. 18.

I am super impressed with Oklahoma. They looked really good, especially the second half.

Clemson looked good I think, but I am not really sure how good Auburn is yet. I suppose we'll find out more about both of those teams as we move forward.

Roll Tide!

Florida connects on a 63-yard game-ending TD to top Tennessee earlier today.. What a great throw and catch. The Gators top the Volunteers 26-20

That was a remarkable play. Congrats to the Gators.

It's been football night at the Parker house...

I've never been into football very much myself. My wife LOVES football though and she's from Alabama. So in an effort to stay happily married...ROLL TIDE!
