Filibuster is legit.

I went back to Total Wine again yesterday intending to try out Four Roses. They seem to always be out of that so I bought another bottle of Filibuster.

In other words: It wasn’t a wasted trip ;-)

It is hit and miss with the Four Rose's Single Barrel. I might buy 2 bottles next time.

Gonna try the Fillibuster next, though.

As Todd said, it is legit!

Just got back from vacation in Switzerland. Unlike some other parts of Europe, most restaurants had more than just Jack Daniels on hand... Four Roses being the other option (and not a bad option).

Prices tho... PHEW... outside of urban areas (in the south part of the country/ Alps) were fairly reasonable. But in Zurich we're talking between $19-$25 for a carefully measured bourbon. Zero generous pours.

I did come across a place in Zurich that had a "Gold" edition of Blantons. It was 103 proof (versus 93 proof of the single barrel). Had never seen a gold bottle. I was not about to drop $25 on a shot... but I was curious to taste it. I'm not usually a fan of bourbons that approach 100 proof.

Anyone tried the gold edition?

Can't say that I have. I did pick up a bottle of Four Roses small batch earlier this week. It wasn't on par with the Filibuster in my opinion. Still waiting to try the single barrel Four Roses. I have yet to see it in stock.

I've never seen Blanton's on the shelf.

Within the last year Blantons has been on a fairly tight distribution schedule. It can be tough to find.... even in Lexington. In fact the stores around s DC don’t put it out. You have to ask.

I know it’s not everyone’s grail bourbon, but in my humble opinion it’s pretty stellar!

Interesting, Blantons is easy to find around here but not Four Roses.

For those of you who are Game of Thrones fans..

lol, I saw that a few days ago. gave me a chuckle. not sure what level of JW it is though (their red is poison)

Yeah, I heard Red was bad for the various Walkers.. Never tried it. Only tried Black so far.. :)

Typically, I guess it will go this way, right?

Worst to Best

Red -> Black -> Double Black -> Green -> Gold -> Blue

sounds about right.

Red = poison
Black = drinkeable if you're already buzzed
Double black = oddball that's kind of weird
Green is actually good
Gold I've never tried
Blue is amazing but overpriced

Yeah, I have seen the price of Blue.. Just way too expensive. :)

We’ve let this one fall a bit... time for an update. I could only get these when they came out. Couldn’t find the other 3(?). From what I’ve heard I was lucky getting the Oban and the Dalwhinnie. The Oban was one of only 3 bottles that my Total Wine received. Not sure if or when I’ll pop the cork on these.

Wow. Very nice. Thanks for sharing. :)

That's an interesting set, Steve. Tough call on what to do with them.

I vote enjoy them... save the packaging if it floats your boat! :T

interesting about not liking bourbons that hit 100 proof. I'm the opposite. I have a hard time with bourbons UNDER 100 proof. 114 proof old grand dads or 125 proof Bookers Single Barrel are my two favorites

I ended up finding the Night’s Watch Oban from the GoT collection. Tried that out last week and I enjoyed it very much. This week I tried the 14 year old Glenfiddich aged in bourbon casks. This was excellent as well. The Lagavulin from the GoT collection was a peaty mess IMO. I’ve never cared for scotch that tastes like dirt.

Can you throw up a pic of the bottle?

Built a glass door cabinet in the backside of our new bar... found a few goodies to fill it with!

tried Suntory Whisky the other day. NOT impressed.

lol, it just solidifies that I despise most scotch. Speyside and highland styles are all I can take. I'm still a bourbon guy at heart.

just killed a bottle of 4 Roses single barrel. Excellent batch this year

Me too. The flavor of a good bourbon is incredibly hard to beat.

That 4 Roses Single is awesome. It's on my list!

Can’t get to my basement right now cause I have the tilers redoing my entryway, mud room, front bath floors. I nabbed one off the internet. Blue label
