Apple iPhone 8 (2017) event

Me too. I had an OtterBox for my Galaxy S3, it was nice but it didn't last very long, maybe a year before it fell apart. Swapped it out for a more simple UAG that has held up very well for the last 4 years. In fact it still looks like new. So when I got an iPhone 6 for my work phone I got a UAG for it as well.

Did anyone pick up an iPhone X?

Mine will not be ready for me till early Dec..

It's amazing how the Apple products sell out like hot cakes compared to Samsung's. It was difficult for me to get the new iPhone 8 256GB. I can only imagine how difficult it is now to find the iPhone X.

I happen to be at the mall to get something and walked by the apple store. It was packed beyond anything.. I didn't even try to go in that area. It looked packed like sardines.

Check out this IPhone X water test.

Interesting. Brave to possibly trash the phone. But, he probably will make about $2,500 off a million views. Not too bad!

I agree. I wouldn't drop it.. lol.

Considering the screen is OLED, do we need a screen movement app to fight off screen burn?

from forbes,

"In a new support article titled ‘About the Super Retina display on your iPhone X’, Apple warns owners:

“If you look at an OLED display off-angle, you might notice slight shifts in color and hue. This is a characteristic of OLED and is normal behavior. With extended long-term use, OLED displays can also show slight visual changes. This is also expected behavior and can include “image persistence” or ‘burn-in,’ where the display shows a faint remnant of an image even after a new image appears on the screen.”

Apple stresses it has engineered the Samsung-supplied panel to be “the best in the industry in reducing the effects of OLED ‘burn-in’.” This is all well and good but having reviewed phones for nearly 20 years, I can tell you blue tints and burn-in on modern day OLEDs is not “normal behaviour” for smartphones in this price bracket."

Hence my question. :)

My X arrived yesterday...have run into a very frustrating "cannot restore because the backup is corrupted" message. That message finally went away when I made sure both phones had the most updated iOS. My old iPhone carried iOS 11 (I was avoiding the most recent update due to the "i" texting issue). But, once both phones were 100% current, the corrupt message went away.

I'm sure this is Apple's way of making sure you are running the absolute most recent software.

Otherwise, the phone is just a smidgen bigger than my iPhone 6. Perhaps slightly heavier. Glad its here because my 6 was getting to 40% battery life and shutting down. Fingers X-ed that the advance battery in the new phone will deliver!

So how’s that screen look compared to your old phone? Impressions of its pic/vid quality? C’mon Todd we need more!

Congrats on the new phone.
There are reports of a green line showing up on the display for some users.

Apple states it is a hardware issue and they will replace the phone..

Night and day. The screen is gorgeous. Seems super big, but the form factor is the same. So it’s a win-win.

The phone is wicked fast, too. The facial recognition feature makes unlocking the phone incredibly easy... and the new finger gestures/swipes are also logical and quicker.

I haven’t used the camera yet, but I have noticed that the vibrations the phone makes are more textured and nuanced.

Here’s a picture of my old and new phones:

Yep, I’d say that’s definitely night and day. You lucky son of a gun!

Wow.. I like..

Todd, what case did you end up getting?

I was just playing around with the camera... it, too, is significantly different.

For a case, I bought a $14 SILK wallet case from amazon (the one I pictured earlier in the thread). I used the same brand for years with the older phone. There’s a little piece that’s removable and you can carry 5 cards on the back of the phone.

All-in-all, totally satisfied (other than some hiccups in set up). I honestly can’t believe I ordered it about 24 HRs after the preorder and ATT had it sent overnight about 11 days later. Just got lucky, I guess. But, couldn’t have come at a better time. The other phone was really failing me.

Great.. Congrats again and enjoy! :)

Yep, I’d say you got lucky getting yours as soon as you did. I’ve yet to see one in the wild but when I do I’ll be striking up a conversation.

I feel like I’ve taken about 10 steps closer to The Matrix.

The truth is: there’s a part of me that wishes these phones had never been created. Not to get all social, but it breaks my heart seeing what they’re doing to how people interact with their environment.

The other part of me is blown away by conveniences and the pure technology side of things.

Total love hate.

Jeff, earlier in this thread you basically said I should get this X, skipping the small 8. If you hadn’t been so bold in your directive, I never would have ordered it ;-). True

Oh, I totally get what you’re saying on the love hate aspect. It’s a rabbit hole we’re all traveling. It’s like we’re advancing but are we really? Anyway, congrats on the phone and keep us updated as to further thoughts as you continue to use it.
