Movie Roll Call: What have you seen lately?

Just finished seeing an old movie from 1974 called "Blazing Saddles". Just a hilarious movie..

I saw bits and pieces of it over the years but never saw it from start to end till now.

I just saw Spiderman Homecoming at an AMC theater here in New Orleans where we are visiting. The movie was not so bad but the subs were asleep. No LFE moments at all. That part was disappointing.

McLintock! One of my favorite westerns.

You're as bad as Todd! WAY BEHIND....The 4K version is spectacular!

lol. I am always months if not years behind.. I slowly catch up in due time.. :)

Just watched "Morgan". I didn't have high expectations but...I really enjoyed the movie. I was really drawn into it. Definitely a thumbs up if your into movies like this. These kind of movies have been done before but this one really caught my full attention.

Also want to give Dunkirk a thumbs up. Saw it last night. It crazy how little dialogue was in the movie. Only problem was I wanted to run up to the projector room and adjust the picture. It was kinda blurry and had some trouble hearing what little dialogue it had. Still enjoyed it though.

Watched last night very late, Rogue One..
I was kind of lost to be honest in regards to the story line but near the end, it made sense. :)

Overall, I enjoyed it.

I saw Morgan a few weeks ago...I thoroughly enjoyed it!

This weekend we watched King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017). Coming from Guy Ritchie, it was of course visually dazzling with frenetic (but wonderful!) editing in a lot of places. I was expecting more in the bass department though. The movie itself was ultimately satisfying, yet somehow fell short of my expectations. This is apparently the first movie in a planned series of King Arthur flicks from Mr. Ritchie.

We also watched Wakefield (2017). Basically a one-man-show starring Bryan Cranston as a man going through sort of a mid-life-crisis. Through a series of bad decisions, he essentially becomes homeless...while living in the attic above his garage. My wife and I liked the movie a lot....until the end. The ending is a very big letdown, IMO.

Next up was Phoenix Forgotten. Yet another "found footage" type movie (I know it's not for everyone, but it's a genre the wife and I actually enjoy a lot!). Although the movie would be classified as science-fiction, it is centered around the real-life "Phoenix Lights" sightings and the subsequent disappearance of three teenagers in the Phoenix area. A lot of reviews are bashing this movie because it doesn't really get going until about the last 15 minutes, but I thought the build-up was well done and necessary to flesh out the characters and give the ending the impact it ultimately had.

Finally, we watched a movie that really defies description; Colossal (2016). Try to imagine Cloverfield as a comedy. The trailers give away the big plot points of the movie, but it doesn't really matter...the story and characters are what's important here. I especially liked Anne Hathaway, Jason Sudeikis and Tim Blake Nelson's performances. The wife and I were skeptical and had pretty low expectations, but we ended up loving this strange, quirky, very different "monster movie meets coming-of-age meets redemption/revenge" story.

Watched Alienate last night, what a loser film. I almost quit watching it several times & then got to the best part...the end!!! Save your money, it was awful.

Oh man, I hate getting a movie you think is going to be great and then all of a sudden, it is terrible, waste of time and money. Thanks for the heads up, Will add it to my skip list. :)

A 2.6 on IMDB and a 1.6 on Rotten Tomatoes...I'm not surprised it wasn't the greatest. ;)

I'm sorry you had to go through that.... :)

I enjoyed The 33 about what happened to the Chilean miners. Great performance from the entire cast.

I heard of this movie "33". .I will have to check it out.. Thanks for the reminder. :)

No problem. I had forgotten about it too but ran into it while searching on Cinemax.

Watching Risky Business right now.

Risky Business is a classic. :)

Re-watched (for the ump-teenth time) Point Break (1991) last night. Bohdi and Johnny Utah are two of the best characters ever to grace the screen, IMO! Even with Keanu's sub-par acting, this has always been one of my favorite "guilty pleasure" movies. If you've never seen it, it is worth it for the surfing scenes alone!

This was one of director (and wife to James Cameron) Kathryn Bigelow's earliest films. She subsequently went on to greatness with The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty and the upcoming Detroit.

P.S. Skip the horrible 2015 remake of Point Break. This is one of those films that should never have been re-made.

Thanks for the details Alan. I never saw this movie "Point Break"... Will have to find a dvd copy of the 1991 version. :)

What's crazy I've never seen either one. I need to see the original for sure. It's on my to watch list now.
