Movie Roll Call: What have you seen lately?

I almost forgot about this thread, but found it again while looking for opinions on Alita: Battle Angel. Well, I watched it last weekend, and wow what a ride that was. Especially the Atmos soundtrack - really great immersion and fantastic low end. Hoping they made enough money to consider exploring that story further.
I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it!

I caught John Wick 3 in theaters. Great addition to the franchise and I’ll be adding the 4K copy soon.

Shazam - fun flick.

Set my 7.2.6 ablaze. Really spectacular audio... I think It May have just edged its way into my top 5 favorite Atmos flicks. Notable: some really amazing directionality and sound pans.

Watching the tv drama.... Bad Guys on Netflix. It is a Korean drama that was filmed in 4k (it is in Korean with subtitles). I am streaming 1080p, and watching on our Samsung 4k FP. The picture is the best I have seen streamed from Netflix other than a shimmer on their hair.
Give it a look, and let me know if you have the shimmer too, and what you think of the quality of the video.

Watched Avengers End Game. Not too impressed...less action than talking. Basically a feel good ending too a series. Picture quality and audio was great.

The first negative response I’ve heard. Loved it!

At the theater waiting for Joker too start...have the place too myself.

Wow, That is nice. Hopefully it stays like that. :)

Two more people is not too bad. lol.

Glad you enjoyed the movie.

Will have to check it out.

Only two people joined me. It was some great acting. Solid storyline how joker came to be.
I might cave and watch at the theater.

At 10:45am on a school day I would hope your only one of a few in the theater! lol This assumes that you being 2 hours behind me and your post time being accurately reflected of course. My wife and I plan on doing this soon hopefully. We both are retired but there's still a bunch of things we need to get caught up on before we start heading to the theater early in the day.

This Gun for Hire. Kinda odd but it's the first film I've ever seen staring Veronica Lake.

Watched “Sully” on 4K. My wife hadn’t seen it... and I had forgotten what an amazing Atmos track it carries. A+ reference material!

That scene when they say "brace brace brace head down, stay down" always gets me in that movie Sully.

I watched X-Men: Dark Phoenix over the weekend. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this film despite the many negative reviews : )

I also recently watched a gem of the classic film era, L'Atalante (1934), directed by Jean Vigo. Great storytelling does not need polished VFX or a mega-budget : )

Don't Breathe.

Thought it was entertaining... however the last 20 minutes or so were (perhaps) a bit too much over line.

Hereditary 4K.

Really enjoyed 98% of this film... but the ending pulled whatI dislike most in horror: a busted ending. Sound, up-mixed, is phenomenal. I’m sure the native 5.1 track can stand strong. Great image.

Alien Covenant

I liked this film a lot... not perfect, but another good install in the Alien story. Great ending. Recommended if you’re an Alien fan and on the fence.

4k transfer is quite good... Atmos track is solid. Has a few highlight moments.

Supposedly the next film in the series is being written, Alien: Awakening. The question is whether Disney will approve the production, and or if they do will they edit it to its death.

It's been awhile since I sat down and watched a movie but last night we watched Aladdin. I thought it was so-so. Disappointed I bought it.

First Man

it’s a claustrophobic movie... a little dark... lots of shots that are cropped tight. But, it’s excellent. My favorite film about the space race will always remain The Right Stuff, with the recent CNN documentary Apollo 11 a close second. As for First Man, I’ll need some time to digest it. While it started a tad slow (and it’s visual feel took some time to accept), its climax was brilliantly portrayed.

After viewing, I wondered about its accuracy and found an interesting article in Esquire that says the Director painstakingly researched the film to make it as realistic as possible. The article concludes its one of the most realistic movies about space travel ever made.

Spiderman Far From Home - loved it!

Last night we watched Safety Not Guaranteed. I really enjoyed it. Great script. It’s evident they spent the budget on story and actors, which is fine with me. I enjoy it now and then. You can tell it was shot with available light. No big hair and makeup budget. Just a good story and good performances.

it’s not gonna be demo material to show off your system but it’s worth watching.
