Movie Roll Call: What have you seen lately?

Watched Avengers: Endgame last night and thought it was a fitting end to the series. Highly recommend.
Yes, I agree 100%. Great movie.

Is it a flick that you can just jump-in and watch even if you're not super familiar with the series?

Todd, see my post in the review for Endgame. Technically, yeah, you can just get in but you would be somewhat lost IMHO. At a minimum, Infinity War, since that is the first part and Endgame is the second part. But, to really understand all the characters and all the buildup, best to watch the entire MCU.. :)

I haven't seen anything lately... where are all the big summer blockbusters at?

Here are the top movies so far for 2019

1 Avengers: Endgame
2 The Lion King (2019)
3 Captain Marvel
4 Toy Story 4
5 Spider-Man: Far from Home
6 Aladdin (2019)
7 Us
8 John Wick: Chapter 3
9 How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World
10 The Secret Life of Pets 2
11 Pokemon Detective Pikachu
12 Shazam!

Pretty dismal... with maybe the exception of Endgame.... as far as being really big. Of course I suppose Lion King and Aladdin would be considered big to some folk.

I agree. Endgame was the movie of all movies this year. :)

Apollo 11

Reference, reference, reference. Awesome documentary with amazingly nuanced audio that upmixes via virtual:x to heights of beauty.

A new top 10 favorite for me. Must own, IMO... doubly so if you have any sliver of interest in the 1st lunar landing.

A+

I don’t know why I haven’t seen this yet. Thanks for the recommendation & reminder!

It’s a fantastic documentary. The footage is breathtaking and the audio is treated with a true enthusiast bend.

Apparently it’s getting the 4k UHD treatment, although the video footage is all original. So, I’m not sure if there would be much benefit in the video department.

Audio-wise, there might be a bump up to true DTS:X. If so, I’d be curious to see if there’s any notable difference between a native mix and the Blu-ray’s native DTS-HD MA encode played using Virtual:X.

Don’t know

We watched Hunter Killer last night and man that movie exercises your subwoofers.

Bad Times at the El Royale

I thought parts of it were a bit slow but I still enjoyed it. I’d really like to know what was on that reel!

1978 Superman The Movie in 4K (the Atmos track, which you have to select) was literally to die for.

And

Collateral. Great flick. A little grainy from its digital shoot. Sound upmixed with DTSX Neutal was WOW!

Godzilla: King of Monsters - LFE was awesome! Movie was terrible. I have visions of this becoming a drinking game movie.

Gonna watch Godzilla later tonight. Watched Alita last night and it was fabulous. Best movie I have seen in quite some time.

Alita: Battle Angel

Excellent CGI but like Godzilla King of the Monsters, the story was a bit goofy. The action was good though. The ending was supposed to make feel like wanting more but I felt more relieved than anything else.

Looking forward to the next movie where she gets to deal with Nova... it's gonna be good for sure.

Ready Player One.

Awesome home theater flick from top to bottom!

That looks like it would very interesting... reminiscent of Tron.

Definitely worth a watch

Watched Alita Battle Angel and Brightburn. Alita was ok and Brightburn was at times cringe worthy.

Dumbo - this flick saved the weekend as one of the more enjoyable movies we watched.

Surprised no one busted my chops on this one! lol It really wasn't that good of a movie. Michael's review was spot on for Dumbo!
