Movie Roll Call: What have you seen lately?

I thought one of the best sonic parts was when Shelby buzzed the crowd with the airplane.

Extraction - after hearing good things about it here. The movie itself was ‘meh’. Some of the action sequences were very good though as stated here.

I should add that I enjoyed it because of those action sequences.

We watched Birds of Prey last night. The Harley Quinn piece.

what a shame.

I enjoyed the character in Suicide Squad. Was looking forward to this. It was like watching a very colorful film version of an overacted Broadway play. It didn’t even sound good, though the image was nice.

bummer.

Hmmm

I just finished Gemini Man. What a pile of poo. I don’t understand anyone who things watching movies at 60fps is enjoyable. It feels like watching a high school video project or a home movie shot on a phone. It makes the action scenes feel more fake. Everything about it is just wrong.

These are made for people who wouldrather watch the bitrate fluctuation than the movie, and care more about the frequency response of their speakers than the script.

It’s a shame, too, because the movie could’ve been decent if it weren’t for the distracting gimmick.

I guess I’m done watching Ang Lee movies until he changes his mind about frame rate.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood - loved it!

My wife and I have been wondering about this one. Wasn't sure if it was targeted for adults. Guess we should give it a go. Thanks.

We watched Black and Blue last night. A story about a rookie cop whose body camera caught other cops murdering drug dealers. The decription was better than the movie. I wouldn't recommend it.

Although I haven't looked into it, I'm pretty certain that it's based upon a true story. Delves into the personality of Mr. Rogers and how he truly was what you saw on TV every day.

Can confirm!

Bloodshot. Thought it was a solid film. Enjoyed it. Once again shows that smaller budgets can produce quality films, some that rival the garbage some of the top studios are putting out.

We watched Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind last night. While I thought it started a bit slow, it was enjoyable. I don't think it was as good as Kiki's Delivery Service.

Tonight we watched the UHD release of The Blues Brothers.
This is a special movie for me. Not only is it fantastic, funny, and has great music, but this is the movie that really pushed me into home theater and surround sound.
I was at a friend’s house, and he was showing me his new receiver. He put on the Laserdisc of The Blues Brothers, and from the first horns of She Caught the Katy firing from behind me, I was absolutely hooked.
I went out the next week and found a ProLogic receiver in my price range and bought a $100 KLH Center/surround combo. They were the worst quality speakers I’ve ever known, but it was a start, and it put me in the game until I could afford better.
I’ve since owned every version of this film to be released, from a VHS copy of his laserdisc to my own laserdisc, dvd, bluray, digital...The UHD did not disappoint. This amazing music has never sounded better. The picture, much like Top Gun, was really nice, without losing the feel of film. It’s not as sharp as today’s digital filmmaking, but that’s a good thing.
if you enjoy good music, this is a must-have.

Top Gun 4K UHD... great restorer re-release, cheese and all

Both those films are such classics in Japanese Anime : )

Vice - Dick Cheney. Need I say more?

Knives Out was better than I expected.

We watched Across the Universe last night. Hadn’t seen it since original release, and really only remembered it looking and sounding very good.

It still looks and sounds great (Dolby Surround did a nice job upmixing it) and, for a musical, I enjoyed it.

There was a time not long ago I wouldn’t watch a musical, but in the last few weeks we’ve watched La-La Land, The Blues Brothers and Across the Universe. Maybe this weekend we should watch the South Park movie?
