Movie Roll Call: What have you seen lately?

Watched The Lighthouse. Interesting film with some cinema photography liberties. It takes a certain type of mood too sit through the whole movie. The 480 was kinda a bit much though.

I finally watched Blumhouse’s Fantasy Island tonight. It wasn’t scary, but I actually really enjoyed it, as someone who grew up watching the show.

This was an interesting dark twist. Much better than the reviews.

I must say it looked cheesy from the trailers but I also found it an enjoyable watch. Better than expected.

I finished the second season of Hanna on Amazon Prime. The show was pretty good! I actually enjoyed the series more than the movie from 2011.

Picked up the new remaster of Flash Gordon on 4K. The basic version, not the special edition stuff.

Look, you guys like Starship Troopers, so I get Flash Gordon.

This disc is BEAUTIFUL!!! I only wish the audio had received the same attention. Seems like it’s probably the same audio mix as the blu-ray, which is pretty meh. Very front heavy and nasally. The Queen soundtrack deserves better.

Gorgeous image though. Film grain in tact. Tasteful use of HDR. Brilliant colors. These are just quick snaps with my iPhone.

Watched Lights Out last night. It’s an older movie that I somehow missed but pretty good. If you’re in the mood for creepy it’s a good watch. We’re doing The Outpost tonight.

We watched Spies in Disguise. It was mindlessly entertaining. I’d give it a 6 out of 10.

I did a Scuba Double Feature this weekend...last night I watched 47 Meters Down, and I just finished up Deep Blue Sea 3 today.

I'd say that Deep Blue Sea 3 had the better production quality - sound and picture, but 47 Meters Down was by far the more entertaining movie.

I'd never watch either of them a second time.

Great colors!!

Watched The Outpost. Good watch. Disturbing there were so many really bad locations we stationed in Afghanastan. Pretty similar bad outcome in most of them.
We also watched The Outpost last night. Gripping story but WHY would you put a base in that location?

There were many outposts like this in that war. Hence why the death toll was so high. Frankly those higher in command (4 star/3 Star)who decided on these locations, and then refused to leave them for god knows what reasons other than politics and ego should have at minimum been busted to private and do a decade in the brig for what went on over there. If you haven’t seen it check out Restrepo. An actual footage docu of another post. This movie outpost reminded me a lot of Restrepo. Another one is called Korengal. Seen them both, even more disturbing when they real people you watching and not actors.

This movie was bad 40 years or so ago when I first saw it. I’m sure it’s just as bad now. So bad it’s good!!

Sam Jones showing up in “Ted” years later was a fitting way to recognize Flash for it’s, um, cheesy brilliance(?).

Hope it gets a lot of plays for you!

I watched the recent Netflix show, 'Away.' It's a great space drama! Check it out :T

1st, Hey Todd, it‘s been far too long since I visited this site! 2nd. Just watched “The Mask Of Zorro” on 4K/UHD and man did it look awesome! Many agree that Sony is putting out the best 4k transfers and really do it right. The level of textural detail, colour, black level in this pre-2000 movie is incredible. I read several reviews of it and all raved about the incredible image quality. Being shot on film, it retains a very fine grain (especially in white clouds, blue skies), but it is in no way a distraction. It is the epitome of “Cinematic” on a home theatre display. I agree. It’s definitely Reference-grade. On my 65” OLED C9, on Cinema HDR it was simply gorgeous. I’d watch it again in a heartbeat just because of how awesome it looked. When a superb Dolby Atmos track is added - played through my incredbile Samsung, Harmon/Karden Q80r Soundbar and sub, the end result is visual and audio ‘nirvana’

Last night I watched The Outpost and The Hunt.

The Outpost was good, just not my thing, I guess. However, I thought The Hunt was very good, cleverly done. They made liberals think it was anti-conservative, and conservatives think it was anti-liberal, and then basically pointed out the stupidity and hypocrisy of both sides. Also probably why it received such middling reviews.

Watched, The Devil All The Time, on Netflix. Great performances and gripping story.

Wow. That got an 8% rotten tomatoes critic score!
