Movie Roll Call: What have you seen lately?

Godzilla vs. Kong - worth it for the LFE. Storyline is what you would expect from a Godzilla movie - bad.

Watched “Fear of Rain” last night. I thought it was really solid. Nicely written, decent acting, great production. When it was over I was kicking myself for not noticing the bread crumbs they had dropped throughout the whole film.

I watched a couple recently.

Those Who Wish Me Dead - If it wasn't free with my HBO Max subscription I probably wouldn't watch this one. Parts of it seem like it could be so good and parts of it seem so cheesy. When the credits rolled I found out why - Taylor Sheridan. He had a good thing with the first season of Yellowstone and then he turned into a soap opera. This movie reeks of a lack of direction. 5/10 for some decent scenes.

Mortal Kombat - I've never seen any of the Mortal Kombat movies and I was told the original was awful. This one was enjoyable in my opinion - 7/10.

FINALLY watched the latest "A Star is Born". I enjoyed it...didn't love it.

Also watched Crazy Stupid Love. I enjoyed it - funny twist at the end.

1. Sheridan seems to do better at writing than directing it seems (he's written Sicario, Hell or High Water, Wind River etc), but his directorial vision is a bit limited I've noticed.

2. the people who told you the original Mortal Kombat was awful should be cut from your life immediately. You don't need that kind of negativity ;)

He definitely does not have the eye for it. :rolleyesno:

Finally got around to watching Tenet the other day. We found it to be a bit long with some fairly dry scenes. I’d give it a 6/10.

I stopped watching Tenet 30mim into it. Yawn!!

I liked it. You have to watch with subtitles (at least I had to)... the film is thick, but it pulls together nicely at the end.

I thought it was a good movie - definitely worth a watch. I did find myself wondering why I had the sub titles on though. I followed the plot just fine - at least I thought I did. :justdontknow:The amount of time spent explaining what was going on was exhausting though.

I’m not sure how you could stop watching right near the start though? That opening scene kinda grabs you and keeps you interested.

Watched 'Beckett' on Netflix last night. Really fun action/suspense film.

Watched The Suicide Squad on HBO the other day. I thought it was quite a bit better than the original Suicide Squad.

I was a little confused on the marketing of this film. So did they completely remake Suicide Squad with the same actors?

it's a soft reboot. It kind of winks and nods at the first one, but sort of reboots it at the same time as some of the characters from the first movie who died are back. Think of it as it's own thing as WB is as determined as the rest of us that we ignore the very first one as if it didn't exist (though this really isn't much better)

I'm falling behind on my movie watching... we did finish up Queens Gambit, which I thought was a good series.

No it's not a remake. And only 2 characters move on to this one, Harley Quinn and I think Boomerang was in the first. This is basically the next mission for them.

just to be aware though, the show and the movie are two completely different productions. The show is a Japanese show, and this is a hong kong production. They're just both taken from the same manga written source material
I think either you're confused Michael or I am. This is a movie not a show:

sigh, that second edit was supposed to be in ANOTHER reply. ignore that last line

Watched Almost Famous and Zero Dark Thirty with my 19 yr old daughter before she went back to college - she really enjoyed both of them. I'm disappointed that summer is over, it's been fun watching movies that I've loved and appreciated with her... this is the first year that she's started appreciating movies as art.

Cruella - fun and enjoyable! Now I know why she hates dalmations! 7/10

Huh. I’ll have to check that film out. Not just a kids movie?

We watched “The Impossible” tonight… it’s about the tsunami in Thailand. Intense subject. Great special FX. So-so movie. I’d only recommend it for a rainy afternoon.
