Movie Roll Call: What have you seen lately?

Finally watched Gran Turismo last night and it was a good movie. Fantastic A/V!
I haven't dialed this one up yet. It's in the library tho.... need to make time to enjoy!

Watched Aliens in 4K/Atmos.... still a fun movie. Very middling audio, sadly. Of the three new Cameron releases, I loved True Lies, but hated the AV. Really didn't love The Abyss, but loved the AV.... and enjoyed Aliens, but thought the AV was rather underwhelming.

Can't win, here, folks!

it's surprising about True Lies, which should have the best sound of them all, being the newest of the lot. I recall the laserdisc with Dolby Digital was really good and was used to show off home theaters back in the day

I watched Spy Kids and Spy Kids 2 these last couple of nights. I needed something light hearted and always liked these flicks. I have Spy Kids 3 to watch to complete the bluray set. Good use of surrounds. :)

Much better after multiple viewings
I loved it, but it's not a movie that I'm dying to pull out on a lazy Saturday afternoon. For me, it falls in that Tenent category... lots of concentration. It's definitely a film you have to relax into...

Exactly, I agree

Agreed GT is a fantastic film.

Yes! Both the GT Academy race scene and the crash scene are fantastic audio demos.

I watched The Equalizer 2 last night.

Watched Dune Part 1 again... actually liked it this time around. Looking forward to Part 2.

Also finally watched Oppenheimer - it was okay, but I would not watch it again.

Yeah, the more I watch Dune Part 1, the more I understand and in turn, enjoy it. I don't think I will see Part 2 until I see it in the Schramm Home Theatre though.

I had to go up and help out my daughter and family Sunday after she gave herself a mild concussion. She seems to be healing well but the affects are still quite noticeable. I didn't listen any music these last couple of nights. I did manage to watch the following flicks at her place.

I wont see untii I watch it in your theater  Sorry Mike. I saw the opportunity and just had to take it. Like you, I'll wait until the 4K disc comes out as well.

Hope your daughter is okay and continues to get better.

Damsel is out? That's one I am looking forward to.

That's so disappointing to hear, about the mediocre audio. Aliens has so many great scenes that would benefit from a current sound mixing/engineering approach.

I watched Oppenheimer the night before the Oscars this past weekend. I thought the film was interesting, but it was the editing and sound design that really saved it from being a dull and tedious film. Like you, I probably won't watch it again. Dune, on the other hand, definitely worth a repeat watch!

I feel the same way about Oppenheimer. There's a part of me that's curious to see if I'd find another level of enjoyment with the film on a second - start to finish - watch... but most of my brain says sitting through another 3hr marathon is a total non-starter.

I must be easily impressed because I thought Oppenheimer was fantastic. Same with Dune but again maybe I’m just an easy to impress simpleton?

Hmmm... well, you are a Chiefs fan.

kidding, of course.

Jeff, you're not alone. Oppenheimer was obviously wildly popular! That's why I feel like a second viewing is probably warranted.
